Letters to a Young Poet

A Western interpretation of Rainer Maria Rilke's "Letters to a Young Poet." Deeply affected by a late summer trip to Montana, I took the chance to turn an assigned class project into a work of designed reflection. The documentation of an experience that changed me paired with the prose of a great poet led me to experiment in ways I hadn't before. I took the text to heart, with its meditations on the creative process. Before working in the digital space, I explored different physical textures, inked stamps, and scanned old Western woodtype. Finding ways to then juxtapose that with set text and a sleek sans serif turned into a challenge with a satisfying solution.
