Sontag

Intro

A set of three book covers for writer Susan Sontag's essays on the social language and implications of photography, popular media, human rights, war, politics, journalism, and literature. Her writing and insights were ahead of her time and her predictions (or warnings) ring true today. The process began with research into her work, her setting (mid-60s and late-70s NYC), her belonging in left-wing, queer subcultures, and her audience of the broader media sphere. The full-bleed archival photographs are from the same time period, while the airy, organic typography prompts for a closer, slower read to piece it all together. The longer you look, the more the details surface.
